Wherever we look, design is what provides the visual interest. From the bold and dramatic, to the soft and subdued, design creates an emotion that draws our attention.
Digital Art designs are the product of exercises that I developed for myself to explore the Principles and Elements of Design. They were also developed to assist in increasing the skill of quick problem solving.
This design was achieved through layering. I began with creating a background texture. Next I placed one of my personal photography photo's of a silver mannequin, into the design. On top of the mannequin I played with several cracked layers and played with their opacity to create the illusion of breaking through.
Using some photoshop techniques, I masked out part of the upper layers to make the mannequin appear as if she is breaking through what has tried to hold her back. The final touch was the tear of joy that gently falls from her cheek, she has overcome.
The process of this piece involve brand development, marketing, product and advertising design. After developing the brand, I began research for consumer persona.
Photo selection was the next step in the process to create the mood I was endeavoring to achieve. The final step was the creation of the marketing piece in Photoshop.
Illustrator and Photoshop was used in the creation of this design. Working in Ps, the background was created using several brush tools. The skull was created in Ai and then taken into Ps to add texture using various brush tools. Using a combination of Ai brush and pen tools, the creation of the skull background and gear web were developed. These were then taken back into Ps and manipulated using a variety of tools.
This design was created to reflect the mood of the population right after the crash of the housing market. News headlines discussed the possibility of another Great Depression. Politicians complained of individuals being to lazy to go out and get a job, thus burdening the hard working class.
This piece was design to represent the emotion of the hard working class, who no fault of their own, found themselves in dire financial situation. Juxtaposing an image of The Great Depression and the heartache of individuals who had just lost their retirement, savings and home provided a representation of what I was striving to achieve.
A combination of photo montage and Ps brush tools were used to create Paradise. Perspective was developed through the creation of a mist layer over the photo to push the waterfall picture into the background.
Masking of the butterflies and placing them on top of the mist gave the proper perspective. Brush tools were use to give enhance the perspective and bring a floral element in line with the butterflies.
This designed used several photographs to create the look I was striving for. As with all my design, photo selection was critical to obtain the various elements that would be used in combinaiton of the final piece.
Sky, water and ship are from different photographs. The clouds, water treatment, and branches are a combination of brush work.
The process for this piece was the exploration of what visual elements would need to be combined to achieve the mood of mystery and intrigue. Photo selection was primary to achieving the results.
The dark queen was taken into Ps and worked with multiple layers to transform her skin, eyes and lips to the tint I was desiring. Using masking and multiple brush tools, several photographs were combined. The fine touches of brush tools, allowed depth to be incorporated.
After selecting the two photographs for this piece, they were taken into photoshop and masked. Brush work was used to provide the flame.
Slight enhancement of the eyes and skin tones were worked on to bring life and focus to the eyes through the flames. The hands were photo processed to give them the cold look provide perspective.
Wanting to fully explore the brush tools in Photoshop, I researched various Ps brushes that are on the market. Curious to see if I could create a piece solely with the brush tools, I began to play with perspective, color, hue and tone.
Various Ps techniques were used to enhance the water affect. This assisted with depth, visual interest and movement.
The process for this piece began with developing the background through various Ps techniques. After selecting the desired steam punk photograph, it was taken into Ps and all the elements around the woman and the cage were removed.
Brush work was applied with masking to create the illusion of captured magic. The final touch to assist in perspective and provide a futuristic feeling, the skyline, line work was added to the layer below the woman
